Alopias vulpinus
This adult common thresher shark is being worked on in the shark cradle attached to the stern of the NOAA Ship David Starr Jordan. This shark was caught, tagged, and released alive during the July 2004 Juvenile Shark Survey off of the Channel Islands. This shark gets its name from its long, scythe-like tail.
