Isurus oxyrinchus
This adult mako shark was caught during the SWFSC's Juvenile Shark Survey in 2004 off of the Channel Islands. A SPOT satellite tag was attached to the dorsal fin. This photo shows the hose being removed from the sharks mouth prior to release. The hose flushes seawater over the gills so the shark can breathe while being worked on.
