Dosidicus gigas
This adult jumbo squid was caught by squid jig aboard the NOAA Ship David Starr Jordan during the 2007 juvenile shark survey near the Channel Islands. Jumbo squid have a large eye, seen here, which allows it to see in very low light settings, such as those deep underwater where it is typically found.
