On the 26th of February, 2009, NOAA Ship David Starr Jordan was awarded “2008 NOAA Ship of the Year” from CAPT Michele Bullock, Commanding Officer, Marine Operations Center – Pacific. One-hundred people from the Jordan, the Southwest Fisheries Science Center and Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, were on hand to celebrate the accomplishments of the Jordan’s crew and command over the past year, which ranged from routine surveys (CalCOFI and rockfish) to challenging deployments (ROV and long-line fishing gear) to first of a kind surveys (leatherback turtles and vaquita) – eight multi-leg surveys - all executed in a flawless fashion due to the tremendous support, expertise and experience of the Jordan’s officers and crew.
