Development and use of technology for economically studying fish and zooplankton distributions and abundances, predator-prey interactions, and ecosystems over large time- and space-scales. Current studies include the development of: 1) autonomous instrumented buoys, landers, and small-craft; 2) a multi-scattering method and hyperbaric chamber for measuring broad bandwidth total target strengths; 3) methods for in-situ multi-frequency target strength measurements; 4) multi frequency techniques for acoustical taxa identification; and 5) an acoustical-optical technique for surveying demersal fish and their physical oceanographic and benthic habitats.
