The Monterey Bay Marine GIS User Group meeting will be on Thursday, July 19, 2012 (10:30-3:00) at the NOAA Fisheries Lab in Santa Cruz. The GIS user group will support GIS training, capacity building and increase awareness of marine spatial data sets among the broader GIS science community in Monterey Bay. The goal for this meeting is to foster collaboration among academic, private, state and federal agencies and NGO's in the Monterey Bay marine GIS science community.
Our Keynote speaker, Dr. Patrick Halpin (Duke University, Marine Geospatial Ecology Lab
) will present "Illuminating the Oceans: using geospatial analysis to better understand the marine world." Following this keynote address, Dr. Will McClintock (UCSB) will introduce our group to recent advancements in SeaSketch
, the new platform for collaborative GeoDesign software for marine spatial planning. Jason Roberts (Duke) will present on Marine Geospatial Ecology Tools
(MGET), the open source geoprocessing toolbox designed for coastal and marine GIS analysis and Melissa Foley (Center for Ocean Solutions) will highlight an upcoming geospatial project on cumulative impact assessment
in Monterey Bay.
We hope you will join us for the second semi-annual Monterey Bay Marine GIS User Group meeting.
