Introduction
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is developing scientifically based criteria for delisting Evolutionarily Significant Units (ESUs) of anadromous salmonids that are listed as Endangered or Threatened under the U. S. Endangered Species Act (listed ESUs). Recovery efforts are focused on geographically defined Recovery Domains. A Technical Recovery Team (TRT) has been created for each Recovery Domain, and charged with developing recovery criteria for all listed ESUs in the Domain. Technical Recovery Teams are composed of scientists from NMFS, other federal and state agencies, and academia, and are chaired by a NMFS scientist.
The Regional Office assigns Recovery Coordinator to each Technical Recovery Team. The Coordinators are non-voting participants in the technical recovery planning process, and are charged with monitoring the planning process, ensuring public awareness of the process and carrying products of the TRTs through the development and implementation of recovery plans.
Four Recovery Domains are partly or entirely in the state of California, and thus fall under the jurisdiction of the Southwest Region of NMFS which bears responsibility for guiding recovery planning. The links below provide information about each of the Technical Recovery Teams.
