The Cooperative Fisheries Oceanography Research Unit (CFORU) is a developing partnership between the Southwest Fisheries Science Center of NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service and Humboldt State University with the following goals:
- to contribute to the development of the Pacific Coast Ocean Observing System (PaCOOS), and in particular, to implement a ship-based ocean observation program in the historically undersampled waters off northern California;
- to conduct research in fisheries oceanography and related fields, with a focus on the California Current Large Marine Ecosystem; and
- to enhance future capacity for effective management of marine resources by engaging students in fisheries oceanography and related fields through training and research opportunities.
