Science Magazine reported on the plight of the endangered
central California coast coho salmon and the increasing probability of
extinction due to three consecutive years of exceedingly low returns. SWFSC
Fisheries Ecology Division scientists Brian Spence and Carlos Garza were
interviewed for the story, which also highlighted the innovative work by Center
scientists on genetic broodstock management and adult releases that are part of
the two captive broodstock programs for California coho salmon that have been
established in the last decade by multi-agency collaborative groups.
