Sixty-nine years of research collaboration between SWFSC and SIO was recently highlighted in a video, "CalCOFI- An Important Partnership for Marine Resource Management in California." Established in 1949, the California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigations (CalCOFI) program has implemented decades of survey research along the California Current Ecosystem to investigate how environmental conditions and fishing activity affect Pacific sardine (Sardinops sagax) and other coastal pelagic species populations.

The producer, Hillary Eggers, created this video as her Masters of Advanced Studies in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation Capstone project at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. She now runs her own business creating works that provide an enjoyable and educational narrative on marine science. Hillary was inspired to create this video upon learning about the CalCOFI program’s extensive research and its influence in the lives of everyday Californians. She believes, “videos and photographs are able to reach and educate a wide range of people, and that is why I chose video as the medium to educate about CalCOFI. The video gives people a chance to see what CalCOFI is all about, no matter their age or background. I hope it will inspire viewers to learn more about the program, and in turn learn more about their local ecosystem.”
