Working Group Organizes to Consider Causes of Salmon Decline

In July the SWFSC Fisheries Ecology Division hosted the organizational meeting of a scientific working group to consider the possible causes of decline of salmon stocks in the Sacramento River, and perhaps more broadly along the west coast. The working group, jointly organized by Churchill Grimes (SWFSC) and John Stein (NWFSC) at the request of Pacific Fishery Management Council, consists of approximately 20 scientists from NMFS, other federal and state agencies, and academic institutions.

The working group was divided into sub-teams for assembly and analysis of data and writing the final report which will be delivered to the Pacific Fisheries Management Council in March 2009.
