SWFSC Fisheries Ecology Division research geneticist Carlos Garza was elected as a Fellow of the California Academy of Sciences. This lifetime appointment to one of the governing bodies of the Academy was in recognition of his “contributions to the advancement of science”. Carlos’ work uses molecular genetic data and analyses to address questions related to ecology, evolution, conservation and management of animal populations and ecosystems, with recent work on salmon, trout, rockfish, herring, sturgeon and pinnipeds. His work includes a mix of both basic and applied research that is used to inform resource managers at the international, national, state, and local levels.
