Salmon Fishery Management Plan Amendment 15 Committee

Michael Mohr and Cindy Thomson of the Fisheries Ecology Division were named to the PFMC (Council) Salmon Fishery Management Plan Amendment 15 Committee. The impetus for the amendment arose from the possible closure in 2006 of all ocean salmon fisheries between Cape Falcon, OR and Point Sur, CA, however it will seek to define allowable "de minimis" harvest levels more broadly for any salmon stock not expected to achieve its conservation objective in a particular year. The Council intends to fast-track the amendment process, with final action on the amendment planned for the 2006 November Council meeting and implementation in time for 2007 fishery management.
