My current research focuses on evaluating policies that may affect marine and coastal resource use within the California Current Large Marine Ecosystem. Research activities consist of: economic and social data collection through interviews and mail and online surveys; analytical methods utilizing these data and other available data (e.g., fisheries, demographic data); and communicating this research in conservation and management forums and to the general public (e.g., publicly accessible NOAA Technical Memorandum). I am also interested in how preferences and attitudes, regional demographic changes, and different governance arrangements may influence demand for fishing (commercial and recreational) and non-fishing (e.g., wildlife watching, seafood consumption) activities in the California Current, allocation of ocean and coastal space (e.g., marine spatial planning), and adaptation strategies employed by coastal communities in response to regulatory and environmental changes.
