Cetacean Health and Life History Program

The Cetacean Health and Life History Program (CHLHP) integrates a suite of research approaches to study the health of whales and dolphins at the physiological, individual and population levels. We maintain long-term datasets to assess health in the context of life-histories, and to diagnose the health effects underlying population dynamics. As such, we augment abundance-based stock assessments by identifying health responses to key threats faced by protected populations in order to support targeted management actions. The program focuses on four major research themes: photogrammetry research, learning from cetacean strandings and collections, biomarkers for physiological health and population studies .
