seabirds at sea imageSeabirds are highly visible, easily identified, and much is known regarding their basic biology. Research on seabirds-at-sea is conducted by SWFSC scientists in the Ecosystem Studies Program of the Marine Mammal and Turtle Division.  Scientists in the group study seabird distribution, abundance and community structure from ships at sea as well as conduct directed studies on seabird foraging ecology, diet, and taxonomy.  Seabird populations on remote islands in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean are also monitored during regular ship-based surveys.
