On a recent (November 2010) research expedition aboard NOAA’s FSV Bell M. Shimada, members of the Benthic Resources Group encountered numerous Humboldt squid (Dosidicus gigas) that were feeding amidst Diaphus sp. (likely Diaphus theta, California headlightfish) in Sur Canyon, south of Carmel, CA.  View several minutes of video footage collected using their Phantom DS4 remotely operated vehicle (ROV) here.
