“The Jurassic Journey,” a film which documents NOAA Fisheries Service’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC-PRD) researchers in action as they capture and tag the giant leatherback sea turtle in the cold waters off California and track its migrations, was awarded the Ocean Conservation Award at the 2007 Santa Barbara Ocean Film Festival last week.

Jeff Seminoff, a Southwest Fisheries Science Center biologist, has worked with the Crittercam project to attach cameras to the backs of black sea turtles. Footage from these turtles has been shown to residents of the Mexican town of Bahia de los Angeles to increase conservation awareness.
