Crittercam on Gulf of California Green Turtles II: Movement Type-1 Dive Black Coral Habitat

Based on VHF and ultrasonic telemetry data, we suspected that green turtles rested occasionally in offshore areas of the Bahia de los Angeles Study site, however until the Crittercam footage was examined we had no idea what specific microhabitats were occupied during these events. We now know that the patchy Yellow-Polyp Black Corral fields in the study area are important sites for such behavior. Whether the turtles association with these areas is an attempt to avoid predators, or simply visit these areas because they attract potential food sources is unknown and will be the focus of further investigations.
